Factors Every UX Analyst Should Keep in Mind

When performing UX studies, your goal is to obtain consistent and trustworthy input on how people engage with a product in their natural environment. You’re looking for user-experience problem areas, as well as any instances where users get confused. 

However, if your test design is flawed, you won’t be able to tell whether the products or the test itself was confounding the participants. This is particularly true when performing unmoderated UX study from afar. Your test strategy must operate as its own moderator because you don’t have the opportunity to rewind or rectify yourself in the moment.

You must ensure that the test strategy will lead respondents through the test without misleading, handholding, or directing them to the “correct” answer. These writing suggestions will help you prevent mistakes in your testing phase, saving you time and aggravation from having to redo erroneous research. Every word is significant

Take your time reading (and then re-reading) every line in your exam plan. It will take time, but you will be relieved to know that you really can rely on your own data. Also, remember to use simple terminology! Pay particular attention to any words that could be perplexing, overly technical, or easily misunderstood. When writing a question, think about how someone could misinterpret it.

Ask one question at a time

You risk getting partial replies if you ask many questions inside a single assignment.

Bad example: How often have you all been doing work with this organization, and why did you choose to use their offerings in the first place? 

Split the question into 2 distinct questions to ensure you get responses to both parts of the question:

  • Have you all been doing work with this company for a long time? (This is a question that requires a written response.)
  • What made you decide to employ this company’s services in the first place? (A inquiry that requires a spoken response)

Use caution when asking leading questions

The way you phrase your questions can influence the responses of your test takers when it comes to UX Testing. Make sure your questions are unbiased and not leading. Some researchers are under the impression that their design teams are pressuring them to just look for the good aspects of the user experience. However, while receiving solely positive reviews may feel wonderful, it will not assist your team in developing a stronger product.

  • Bad example: How much do you like this app?
  • Good example: How much do you like or dislike this app on a scale of 1-5 (1=Strongly Dislike, 5=Strongly Like)?

Prior to posing a question, define crucial ideas

Make absolutely sure your test subjects comprehend what you’re asking of them. This is especially significant for determining task success. If you want respondents to self-report as to whether or not they finished a task effectively, you must first specify what completion looks like. So that your test takers don’t have to guess whether or not they finished the task correctly, tell them exactly what successful execution looks like.
