Skincare Mistakes to Avoid During Winters

As we adapt to winter with knitted sweaters and woolen scarves, we should also adapt to the changes that will soon happen to our skin. As blissful as it may be, winter is harsh on the skin; it can make your skin tight, dry, and scaly. Now, generally, we apply anything oily to our skin to get rid of the itchiness, but there can be adverse effects if the applied product doesn’t suit your skin. There are a lot of such mistakes we unknowingly make. Thankfully in this article, we will understand all the skincare mistakes we should avoid during winter.

Different seasons need a different skincare regime.

Summer skincare products have a sort of lightness in them. They are designed in a way to avoid excessive sweating. Naturally, winter skincare products like body lotion are heavier, cream-based and they incorporate highly moisturizing products like Shea butter, cocoa butter, and bio-oils. Also, some products you use during the summer may have drying agents in them. For example, toners have a high amount of alcohol. It will most definitely worsen your skin condition.

  • No prolonged hot showers

Nothing beats cold winter days like having a long hot bath. No matter how appealing it may feel, avoid taking long hot showers or baths. Hot water can damage your skin’s outermost layer, which will be aggravated and will then be inflamed and irritated. A hot bath will also take away your body’s natural oils, making it more prone to damage. If having a cold shower or bath is out of the question for you, you can try having a bath with lukewarm water. After a bath, don’t forget to moisturise.

  • Over moisturizing

Now, why is that a problem, you might wonder. Yes, moisturizing is the essential part of a skincare regime, but over-moisturizing will not help you make your skin smooth faster. Applying more moisture than your skin can lead to acne and breakouts. It can also block your pores. Use it as it is intended to be used, and your skin will feel super soft.

  • Not applying sunscreen

Sunscreen protects your skin from the sun’s harmful rays; it also protects you from tanning, sunburns, and even aging. Now, in winter, you don’t feel the sun as you would in summer, but that does not mean that its effects are gone. It is still just as harmful as in summer, so make sure you apply the product daily.

  • Exfoliation is necessary

Exfoliation is an integral part of both summer and winter skincare routine. Skipping exfoliation means skipping the chance to get rid of all the accumulated dead skin. For the new one to take its place, you need to exfoliate the dead cells away from your body. Moreover, the fresh new coat will be ready to absorb all the moisture from the body lotions and face beauty cream products from your winter skincare routine.

Conclusion

During winter, your skin needs a lot of hydration. Skipping on winter skincare products may result in long-lasting dryness, so always keep moisturizer, body lotion, and sunscreen with you.
