In today’s world, books are written according to certain patterns. We don’t write books like articles, blog posts, or social media posts.

In this blog post, we will discuss 9 tips on how we can write a book and we’ll also talk about publishing it. We will talk about how we can use our minds creatively when writing a book.

9 Tips to Write a Book

1. Know what to write

You don’t randomly say that you want to write a book. You have thoughts in your mind and you want to put them into words. That is where the idea of book writing comes into your mind. When you think about something that bothers you. You find its solution and you want to help people overcome it too. You discuss it in your book. Without having a desire or knowing not what to write is not beneficial.

2. What kind of writer are you?

Before writing something, you should know what category of writers write this stuff. This means you should know what kind of writer you are. Are you a journalist, academic book writer, fiction book writer, or novelist? Determine in what category you fall. After that, learn how other writers in that field write. Read their stuff comparatively and understand the pattern they use.

3. Do not worry too much

If you are stressing too much over finishing a book, then you need to read books on mental peace before you solve the world’s problems. Worrying is okay but doesn’t take it to the level that you become negative inside for not being able to write. It is called writer’s block. Writer’s block is when a writer is not able to write or produce any content. It happens, and it is normal. Embrace it. Words will come. Know that.

4. Don’t edit while you write

Words come in a flow when you write. Keep writing. If you try to edit it in between, the continuity will get disturbed and it might break the flow completely. It is not a healthy practice. You will write a lot of and it will naturally come from you, unlike when you write and edit side by side. Ever seen masons making a home? Do they paint the blocks and walls along the way they construct it? No. Edit phase will come after that.

5. Know your target audience

You should know who you are writing this book for. First, you need to know where they belong. Then you should know their culture, how they perceive things, what taboos they have, their problems, and how they can solve them. When you know this information, you would have a clear image in mind of what you need to write about. Then you will brainstorm ideas and that is how you will write the book. Without clarity in mind, you cannot write a good book.

6. Don’t copy someone

If you are impressed by a writer, that is okay. But solely based on that, you should not decide to write a book/. Remember, a book is not solely written for income and recognition. If it is not solving anyone’s problem, people won’t buy it. And if you copy a famous writer, it will damage your reputation as an author. Remember, everyone writes differently.

7. Do the Required Research

Without proper research, a book will appear gibberish to the readers. When you claim something or tell it, you back it up with facts. Whatever you’re writing about, whether it is science, law, history, or a biography, you need to provide the reference sources in your book. The book is not a social media post, it’s 300 pages. So what is the point of writing a lot when people will reject it for not having proof of what you’re saying?

8. Keep pen and paper

Writers can relate to this that we get ideas anytime and anywhere. It comes in a flow in our mind and we feel the urge to talk about it at that very moment. You don’t need to carry registers everywhere you go, but carry a small piece of paper and a pen in your pocket. That will not even bother you. Just like currency notes, you would have another piece of paper in your pockets. You can also use your cell phone for this purpose, where you can create notes.

9. Publishing your Book

After writing your book, you have to do three things.

  1. Read it as an unknown person
Read your book like a customer who comes into a store, sees the book, and purchases it, and reads it. If you find it really interesting and a good read, then follow point 2.
  2. Hire a proofreader
Hire a good proofreader. It can be costly but invest in it. Your proofreader will tell you all the things that need to be improved in your book. Do not get offended by it, rather look at it, keeping it in mind to improve your book. After it gets proofread and improved, read it again like an unknown customer. After that, send it to the publisher. Don’t wait around.
