What Is The Future Of Biotechnology And How It Benefits Humans?

Biotechnology is defined as the use of living organisms or their products in some way to benefit people, society, and the world at large. This definition covers a broad spectrum of small and large deeds, from using enzymes to clean up a mess to creating a new life form. In practice, this very broad definition yields several specific technologies which comprise modern biotechnology. These include fermentation, cell culture technology, genetic engineering, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, and growth hormones. Some would also add cloning to this list if only because it uses many of these technologies in combination to achieve its goal.

The future of Biotechnology is very promising because it will increase at a high rate year after year due to its number of benefits. It can benefit humans by improving their health and giving them new options to better their living conditions. With genetic engineering, medicine can help people who are suffering from deadly diseases like cancer. For example, scientists research genetically modified mice which shows that breast cancer will inherit only through the mother’s side of the family (National Cancer Institute). The modification helped develop treatments directly targeting the body’s immune system to help fight against cancer.

One of the most important futures for biotechnology is in the medical area, where it can treat different types of diseases, especially with its use in pharmaceuticals. Scientists are already able to cure some rare genetic disorders by inserting healthy genes into embryos (The Chronicle). However, more research needs to be done before this treatment can be available for everyone who needs it.

How It Benefits Humans?

Biotechnology is changing the world. It does this through developing new products which allow people to improve their health, wellbeing, and safety. Biotechnology may even help solve some of the planet’s most pressing problems, like creating plants that can grow in dry or polluted locations (European Patent Office).

Here are some benefits of Biotechnology:

1) Improving Health:

With the increased knowledge on how our genetic code works, scientists can now manipulate genes and create treatments that heal disease.

2) Environmentally Friendly:

Genetically modified organisms benefit the environment by increasing crop yield. Making plants resistant to drought or pests, dispose of waste products from factories, among other things.

3) Pharmaceuticals:

Scientists use biotechnology to make medicines for treating different types of illnesses. Mainly those with a genetic origin. For example, they can insert healthy genes into embryos or modify a person’s immune system. To fight against cancer cells inherited only through the mother’s side of the family (National Cancer Institute).

4) Advancing Agriculture:

Genetically modified crops are created to be more efficient and increase yield. For example, scientists genetically modify plants to resist environmental factors like drought or pests (Monsanto Company).

5) Cloning:

Cloning is the process of creating an organism with certain genetic traits by using its cells. Scientists use biotechnology to create clones in different ways; however, this practice has caused significant controversy due to the ethical implications. Conclusion:

Biotechnology is a promising field that can use to change the world for the better. Even though it still needs improvement and more research Its effects on society and daily life will increase with time and will make the world a better place to live in.
